Six Minute Solution

Six Minute Solution Program
Purpose: The ability to read a passage with accuracy, expession and quickness.
Program: The Six Minute Solution is a research-based program that is designed for fluency. This program improves oral fluency for grades 1-9. Three levels are present primary k-2/remedial in grade in 3 , intermediate grades 3-6; intervention grades 3-8; read ability is grades 1-6 and secondary grades 6-9; intervention 6-12; read ability to read passages is grades 4-9.
Testing consist of:
1. Passage Assessments/Practice Sheets
2. San Diego Quick Assessment
3. Word List Practice Sheets
4. Word Part Practice Sheets
Placement: Once students have been identified by their fluency level. Each student is placed with a suitable partner that reads at the same reading level. Students arrive on Monday starting a new passage that the teacher introduces by reading to the students, while the students highlight words that are unknown to them. After, the unknown have been established/reviewed, students proceed with one minute check-outs. Tuesday-Thursday, students practice there fluency with their partners. On Friday, students finish reading the passage they have read all week. Passage is read for 5 days. Fluency rate is documented on a daily basis.
